Written & Directed by Michael A. Nickles and the film stars Christian Slater, Ambyr Childers, Toby Hemingway, Jonathan Keltz, Jennifer Missoni, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, Johnny Pacar, and Alessandra Torresani.
The beginning of Playback’s trailer starts out solid and looks as if Playback could be a really good movie. Then the plot is introduced. A mix between White Noise and The Ring. After watching this trailer I was immediately reminded of that scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall where Aldous Snow is making fun of Sarah’s previous movie about a killer cell phone. Having said that, I will still go see this movie but only for two reasons. 1. Christian Slater is in it and nothing bad can ever be said about him due to his role in True Romance. That is his pass for life. 2. This movie comes from the stuido Magnet, the same studio who was brave enough to bring you Rubber.
I would have to say the promotion for Playback is extremely subpar. Playback’s Facebook page is only around 750 “Likes” and their contest is completely non-existant. To my knowledge there is not even a Twitter account or hashtag associated with Playback and the website for the movie is simply an extension from Magnet’s website.
